wonder how grimes and elon are gonna enter the Æ i guess it's gonna get forced to AE. i could see a compromise where super old federal systems etc force everything to all caps ascii but damn u should at least be able to put some accents on ur kid's ca birth certificate
Even characters that we supposedly allow become highly problematic with many different computer systems treating name fields differently. For instance, my CA ID omits the apostrophe in my name despite it being allowed on a birth certificate.

My last name is just “ae” here in Canada
But even a two-word single last name no-hyphens throws the systems for a loop
