wonder how grimes and elon are gonna enter the Æ i guess it's gonna get forced to AE. i could see a compromise where super old federal systems etc force everything to all caps ascii but damn u should at least be able to put some accents on ur kid's ca birth certificate
yeah my middle name has a "ç" but the accent isnt actually on there in any official document (drivers license, etc). its dumb as hell
i can't tell if it'd be worse to have to deal w/inconsistencies in different paperwork/systems but have at least a few core things spell it right, or to have everything spell it wrong but at least it's always the same

It's been that way for a long time. My great grandfather was named Böker, somehow that got translated to Boeker but the pronunciation was changed to baker.
