i am not sure if getting rid of sat/act is unambiguously good or bad like most things there are lots of factors but it’s embarrassingly clear how much most tech adjacent ppl’s takes on this take the hyper competitive bay area style extracurriculars rat race for granted lol

tech ppl love to say “essays & ECs are less fair than the sat” and provide literally zero evidence lol not everyone defaults to writing abt some fake volunteer summer their parents paid for to pad their resumes i know this is hard to conceptualize

I agree that there's some solipsism to these takes. The SAT is super unfair and tilted towards people who went to fancy schools where they learned all those vocab words. And also: would you argue intuitively that essays are or even *could be* more fair?

i think it raises valid points but at the same time idk the kids w resources to resume pad were getting good sat scores anyways and these takes are super focused on a tiny elite subset. there are hundreds of thousands of kids in california for whom any uc would be a dream
