yeah but the problem is that if most people aren't in the rat race then they're automatically out of the running for getting into those schools a lot of times. The SAT provides 1 (one) thing that they have to do

yeah that's fair plus true But if the goal of colleges is to admit academically smart students (which maybe it shouldn't be, idk) regardless of financial/social background the SAT is far, far from perfect but it's probably better than any existing alternative
You can do well on the SAT and have a bad GPA. The content in the SAT isn’t particularly difficult and it’s all short questions. High SAT low GPA isn’t that unusual of a combination.
