maybe i am dumb & naive but it bothers me that most criticisms of "the media class" here show no interest in the question of how do we actually build good lasting accountable media institutions relevant to a wide audience and basically end up at "at least i have stuff for Me"

yes! + every media critique thread ends w. sv ppl pitching crowdfunding/patron models, which might fit some cases (if practicable) but ignore work requiring institutional support for litigation/fact checking/etc. only a handful of newsrooms guarantee writers legal help if needed.

where "legal help" includes appealing + litigating FOIA denials, contesting *criminal* charges for engaging in common newsgathering practices (like ag-gag laws), any First Am right of access suits, and run-of-the-mill libel/defamation/copyright issues.

Perhaps a rating agency like S&P or Moody’s + snopes for journalism. Politifact could be this but has no impact - if Moody’s downgrades your company you have incentive to change behavior
