maybe i am dumb & naive but it bothers me that most criticisms of "the media class" here show no interest in the question of how do we actually build good lasting accountable media institutions relevant to a wide audience and basically end up at "at least i have stuff for Me"

substack & the whole "creator model" is interesting but i think we lose a lot without institutional structures. editors are important and getting called on ur shit makes u better. it's one of the things i like about twitter

yeah i agree think i’m a bit fatalistic bc i can’t imagine getting there via individual-focused ~incentive structures~, and the social fabric that incumbents are built on seems to be eroding anyways but the broader function does seem critical

feel like the "tear it down" with no replacement is most of the discourse that happens on this website, not just limited to convos about media/journalism.
