maybe i am dumb & naive but it bothers me that most criticisms of "the media class" here show no interest in the question of how do we actually build good lasting accountable media institutions relevant to a wide audience and basically end up at "at least i have stuff for Me"
like it's mostly valid i too am tired of hearing a bunch of new york writers talk among themselves and class & accessibility critiques are absolutely accurate but the predominant attitude on here across a wide variety of political stances is tear it all down with no replacement
saw a thread from some tech guy today that basically went "i love that journalists are increasingly irrelevant, now i can just have my pr team shape the narrative" and it was like damn u really said that out loud. but similar sentiment in lots of places
Honestly I’m at a loss as to how, as I assume are most people. Media platforms (social and otherwise) have managed to almost entirely divorce irresponsible content from any responsibility by advertisers, so there’s no monetary incentive to do any better.
It won't come, there is no plan or coherency, we're essentially trapped under just believing the goggle/facebook duopoly or a bunch of writers getting paid by patreon only.
