in most papers the print opinion section looks Visibly Different from the news section and big stories look Visibly More Important than fluff pieces but online they all get the same formatting & branding and any one piece can get linked out and blown up

Most newspaper websites still have sections and a front page, don’t they? I feel like I’m missing the point here. In a way, the catharsis you get from “finishing” a newspaper doesn’t drive people to keep going, so why structure daily news to have an end? From the financial pov.

Yeah this is one of those "I haven't thought about it so I assume no one else has" meanwhile this is something newspapers are spending a fortune on and have thought about a lot with like whole teams and stuff
