someone should make a universal chat system to replace cold emailing with cold IMing. like how traders can just message literally anyone on bloomberg IB

I‘ve thought about this so much. It’s all about norms. IB works because there is a level of professionalism & accountability so you don’t just randomly spam, like, David Solomon. Cf. AIM ca. 2004 where it was chill to message your brother’s ex-gf from camp 2 summers ago.

Both are beautiful and work for their different user bases and contexts. I want the IB equivalent of LinkedIn (NOT InMail) for every industry (not just finance). And I want the AIM equivalent of Twitter (NOT DMs) for all the people I pseudo-know / have crossed paths with.

oh for sure lol it was mostly a joke but imagine if the norms to enable this existed — i think within a company slack norms mostly align here but yeah there’s no industry equivalent
