eg it's great that more companies are throwing full support behind remote (and effective remote requires full support + a fairly substantial number of remote folks to swing the balance imo) but it'd suck to be told like "sorry we don't wanna pay for office space for you"

extends to indirect things like telehealth as well, eg lots of tech cos provide free mental health services to employees — however in my experience most therapists on those services only do video and it's bc it's cheaper, and i'd rather just have good insurance to go in person

it's a huge recurring theme of the past 5-10 years you see it with gig economy stuff, you see it with online education — someone's gonna use tech to expand access & scale a good thing, do you also trust them to not abuse it to cut that good thing's quality guarantees

i think people who are banking on remote somehow making california cheap are fooling themselves, california has never been and will never be cheap but i'm fully behind the idea of giving people who truly just don't wanna be here the freedom to leave
