Well depending from who it's coming from, it could be a conversation starter. I find roots REALLY interesting. Also, it immediately helps with do's and don'ts. It's somewhat part of the Package. I will admit asking for ROOTS is probably nurtured.

mostly comes down to a disconnect where nonamericans have a poor understanding of the history of race in america. in general if someone says they are american i would not ask further about their "roots" unless they volunteer that info
