when it comes to race & ethnicity europeans are obsessed with thinking they're "better at it" than americans but the fact of the matter is if you're not white you'll hear stuff like "ok but what Are you" far more in europe than pretty much anywhere in the united stateshttps://twitter.com/vlad_x2/status/1259388441520898049 …

after being in the uk for a while and interacting mainly with people i knew i got called an american much more often but definitely still ran into the same pretentiousness around europe being “better” than america while pulling some horribly sexist and racist shit
-
i don't find most of it particularly offensive a lot of it is just a different plane of thinking but shit like my french host mom making me thai noodles "because i'd like it more" or like dutch girls in hostels asking me if i'm good at math is really fucking annoying lmao

German white guy here: i dont know anybody in their right mind who thinks we have figured out how to deal w racism. But the government and most ppl do view our own history very critically.

That's true but I don't think I've ever met an European that wasn't convinced that we're so much better than Americans.

Living in Germany I get the sense that some of them are just disappointed I'm American not Indian. But Germany didn't have birth place citizenship till 2000 so definitely see different ideas of nationality - that are disorienting as a naturalized American.
