whenever americans want to appear learned we make generalizations about europeans to make a comparative point but of course europe is a complex place and in my experience the only thing that ties all europeans together is they always tell me that i am not american, i am chinese

Haha similarly, I have described my overarching experience in Europe as always feeling like a perpetual tourist, even when I worked there for months. In the US no one cares, in Europe people do; you can never blend in.
