like gifted kid status is whatever but i feel like if someone gave me a real granular iq number as a child based on a test i could never really take again that supposedly determined literal intelligence that shit might actually haunt me lol

tbc i don’t think it’s an effective way of measurement and it’s never been something i’ve rly thought about but i just saw a tweet that v sincerely categorized ppl by iq and now i can’t stop thinking what it must be like to actually have a number and think abt it for real

Do you think it's different from the many other ways that kids get labelled and feel they have to live up/down to that label or get limited by it? Smart kid, gifted kid, stupid kid, naughty kid, well-behaved kid... it's all stuff that's going to come back to haunt you IMO.

I took one after failing fifth grade but my mom refused to tell me what my score was for that reason. Then 20 years later I was like "Okay, I'm an adult now and I'm just curious what it was" and she didn't remember.

Took one to try to into some magnet school when I was 10. I remember not being able to answer a question because I didn’t know how postage worked. Which like, yeah I was a pretty unaware kid, but don’t know if that measures how “smart” I was. Accepted I was a dumbass there on lol
