i know in reporting for the public it makes more sense to call tim bray a vp but it’s both more significant and also less unexpected that he’s a distinguished engineer

the loss of high level engineering talent is both a weaker and stronger signal than the loss of a high level business executive it's a sign a company has "lost its soul" or whatever but also unless it's matched on the business/product side it's not gonna change the direction
