I hit this last month and can confirm that forcing the link step actually worked for me. Afterwards `python` is system python2 and python3 is homebrew installed python. That caused a ton of panicing and stressed me to hell and i *really* wish they hadn't done this or had warned.

Caveat: while i use a bunch of python utilities for work, I don't actually program in python so if you do this might be not what you want or something -- I wouldn't really notice the difference if my setup was in a 'basically working but actually totally messed up' state
