my favorite are government services, i really enjoyed having to come up with a username for the irs
it's dumb when websites that don't have a social/display name component still ask you to sign up with a username instead of just taking an email address

My favorite are the ones that then do username conflicts but not email address conflicts. Or better yet they make you log in with email address anyway and you never hear about username ever again.

at this point i've decided to just view the process of hitting forgot username every time and routing thru an extra email as just a bonus unintentional 2fa

I know quite a few couples that share an email address. A username comes in handy when an email address doesn't act as an identifier
