kinda depressing that my neighborhood (like many in sf) is structured in a theoretically community oriented way with 6-8 units surrounding a central area w everyone’s backyards but none of us talk to each other

from my deck i’m direct line of sight & within loud talking distance from at least 6 other decks and i’ve gotten familiar w all my neighbors’ deck & yard habits but no clue who any of them are

people don’t talk to each other in sf — i find it’s especially true with twenty-and-thirtysomethings, who are apparently fine with no local community which is why I’m friendly with mostly old people in my neighborhood (all are chatty and left their reservations behind long ago

yeah my neighborhood is already not the worst there’s definitely regulars at the local grocery & the park and stuff but it’s def true that 20-30somethings here are not tryna establish any sense of community lol

even on a purely social level with other young ppl sf is extremely “house party w your friends” vibe not “get drunk w strangers at the bar” unless the bar is actually a vc happy hour and the strangers are ur next seed round lmao
