tbh don't even remember the details of mergesort and quicksort and I'm an eng in big tech can't say I've made much use of them since college
at best it's maybe been touched upon in some interviews -
Implementing sorts after CS class is for PL designers. Which, if you want, more power to you, but... otherwise, it's only worth remembering which kind your stdlib sort is.
