From the times I've read 30u30 it's always seems to be people who are in the same (online) circles. It definitely feels like some "club" that is inaccessible, especially anyone outside of the area, but this is coming from someone in Australia 
yeah it’s inaccessible but in a way that’s totally independent of achievement like. the first step most ppl never get past is just knowing it’s bullshit, did you know it’s literally a self nomination. and then there’s some amount of knowing people but that’s it
