We MUST not equate criticism of China's government with anti-Asian racism. Biden should call out and denounce anti-Asian racism. All our leaders should. But criticizing China's government is perfectly OK.https://twitter.com/WangCecillia/status/1251710858062778368 …

Wow ⁦@JoeBiden⁩. Already trying to out-Trump Trump. This kind of fearmongering is causing violent attacks on Asian Americans. If you are trying to reform your past history of racist policymaking, like your 1994 crime bill, you had better do some homework. This ain’t it. pic.twitter.com/ePHiVGQFf3

Why can't we just remind people of the difference instead of acceding to racist bullshit?

linguistic precision is important you can’t overload “the chinese” to mean both “chinese people” and “the ccp” and expect your message to be clear like sorry we didn’t get different words like “israel” and “jewish” lol. why is it so hard to say “the chinese government”

It's not hard. And he should say that! But using "the X" to refer to a foreign government is a traditional way to speak. Instead of deciding that this traditional turn of phrase is racist, we should simply talk to his campaign people and helpfully suggest the better wording.

i think we’re mostly on the same page and a lot of it comes down to the distinction between “this phrase is racist” and “this phrase conflates concepts that are likely to incite a lot of racist shit”, which is a reality that has to be considered
