is there literally any reason reporters still don’t get input on the headlines that their names get printed under this has never made sense to me

i feel like in a time where lots of ppl are basically only reading the headline and the lede before firing off angry tweets it would be stressful but what do i know
on the flip side back when i did copy at the daily (lol) they made me write all the headlines and i was like bro i signed up to fix commas and write the word “percent” over and over why do i have to come up with headlines from scratch

i guess your mentions can take a hit but at least you’re secure knowing no one criticizing you is worth taking seriously since they didn’t read it. and yeah writing them is actually hard work

most mags have headline meetings to decide them which are extremely weird experiences where everyone’s stroking their chins and occasionally saying something like “napoleon’s nasty norovirus?” and then everyone says nahh and then back to chin stroking
