it's really depressing to me how many ppl get into education because they had shitty experiences with school and want to tear it all down vs because they had good experiences and want to give good experiences to others too

I personally had a pretty negative experience throughout my k-12 and college education. This is one reason why I’ve always felt a desire to become a teacher/professor so that I could try and create positive experiences for students who might have had a similar experience to mine.
yeah i mean often negative experiences motivate good change but it’s striking to me how many ppl can’t name a single positive thing or one good teacher they had like without even one good data point how do you know what to aim for

Totally! It was crazy to realize a few years after I graduated that some of the teachers I hated in high school were actually saints. They dedicated their lives to this job. One of those hindsight things.

This, so much. For the longest time, I resented a few of my teachers, and there are still a couple I think of as mean-spirited, but overall, looking back, I see most of those as saints doing their level best in a truly difficult, challenging and largely thankless role.
