a question that always haunts me is like. i read this thing once abt a public school principal who worked there for like decades but ended up sending his kid to private school and got huge backlash for it and idr details but depending on situation it's not a clear answer for me

That’s the narrative that’s usually sold. AFAIK, funding doesn’t impact outcomes nearly as much as ppl put forward. The sad truth is the “best” schools become the best by selection bias—the pick the advanced the kids.

My wife was a kindergarten teacher. She has plenty of stories of huge variations in progress even at that level. It all comes down to parents—of course no one wants to hear that. The education system is protecting itself, I get that. It’s poor, talented kids that lose most.
