the whole tech vs press twitter dynamic is just if you took the fallacy where you think everyone who agrees w you does so for diverse & principled reasons and everyone who disagrees does so monolithically and for extrinsic motivations and turned it into a perpetual motion machine

the press lacks technical expertise & operates under attention economy incentive structures which leads to flaws in coverage and it's exhausting to watch a bunch of self-described problem solvers who could be trying to fix this spend all their time yelling about haters instead

tbf the way they could fix it is by giving part of their fortunes to a massive journalism nonprofit, I would not want to see a tech guy trying to deal with journalistic ethics

it's so obvious none of them want to touch an actually hard problem like. i found this week's tech-side criticism of vox fascinating, a ton of shit thrown at them for being Garbage Tech Press but no mention of they were funded by accel & khosla and 3/6 board members are vcs

anyways craig newmark did the thing where he donated a shit ton of money back to journalism things in a fairly hands off way and he seems pretty well liked overall
