for the most part we are on the same side though and i recognize that if american cities had been more accessible to more people biking in the first place cyclist culture would be less insufferable & in my face all the time

i think abt my v lovely years on my extremely bike-oriented college campus or my mom’s fond memories of 1970s beijing and i think we really fucked up handing cultural control of a great form of transport over to a bunch of spandexed guys in hyperaerodynamic helmets

Bike culture exists in flat cities. Cyclist culture exist in hilly cities. So sf/most other US cities are doomed to insufferability

yeah i think you are totally correct here it’s pretty tragic.....thinking abt a lisbon style devil’s bargain where we keep the hills but increase density and redo our streets in a convoluted way where biking no longer makes sense. full commitment to stairs

Current bike advocates are also often at odds with sport cyclists. Former want safe protected lanes approachable by any type of rider, latter often wants to go fast and doesn't want to be limited by bike lanes

Plus the cycling snobs have a history of disobeying the vehicular code & not stopping for stop signs & stop lights, plus yelling at cars for daring to be on the road, plus damn near running over disabled pedestrians on the sidewalk.
