trying to figure out what it is that bothers me abt a lot tech adjacent Intellectual People™ who on paper i should really actually like and i think part of it is there’s this whole intellectual exploration thing going on but without any sense of wonder
idk if it is actually just not there or if it isn’t coming across in the way they talk about things but it’s depressing. weird undead inversion of curiosity
i think about this too - I think a lack of joy in / appreciation for non-sensical, absurd, or whimsical? for vibes in general

here are a few other hypotheses 1. many read the same stuff, don’t branch out 2. the markers for “credibility” in what they read also lack variety 3. there’s a neediness to memorize/show/know vs share/wonder that creeps (probably unintentionally) into the vibes
i think a lot of this is true! re lack of variety idk a lot of ppl in other highly specialized fields don’t seem to have this problem sorta leaning toward what someone else said which is a focus on extraction instead of learning or joy or anything else
I think a lot of it is that people are focused on: looking smart, feeling smart, and letting others know how smart you are. Instead of just being curious and growing as a person. Being curious and worshipping being smart are different.
