funny enough in my experience east coasters are also totally unable to cope with day to night temperature changes i was shaken to my core in college when they all wouldn't stop bitching about how cold it was when it hit 60 degrees at night in september

Imo (as someone who’s lived in New England their entire life) its because of the extreme changes of the seasons. It takes me a month or so to get used to winter (0-30F) and as long for summer (80-100F). Between these is an extreme change day to day.

There’s like 4-6 months a year out here where it’s sunny sweater weather during the day and then you go for a cig after dark and you want to DIE
