a thing i've always liked about our cafeteria layout at work is the food is put out on long freestanding tables instead of in serving windows at a counter. it means conversations w coworkers across the table when getting lunch and interactions w food staff as they walk around you
when you have to pause in line, turn around and say hi to the person bringing over the next plate of chicken it's the opposite of having lunch magically appear in a window. it's rly nice and i think our food slack which is all thank yous & recipe requests every day reflects that
