unpopular opinion time: * firms are making decisions about how to respond * under time pressure/uncertainty, firms copy others' decisions * publicizing good practices (reducing financial/performance incentives to break quarantine) increases the likelihood of them being copied
i mean, the portal part is hilarious/dumb/bubble-y but "we're walking back incentive structures to reduce stress and improve quarantine compliance" seems like a good message to spread
like yes and i think companies should def be addressing performance internally but to post it on the wider internet at a time when millions of ppl are about to fully lose their jobs is just weird dude like what fb engineer needs an extra $1000
It says all employees, not just engineers. AFAIK Facebook also employs chefs/cooks/events people/HR folks/finance people/interns etc.. Far be it from me to defend FB but this just seems like unnecessary outrage.
“employees” doesn’t include contractors, who do basically all the low-wage jobs there (cooks, cleaners, etc). and everyone in hr/finance/etc is still making a healthy tech white collar salary—at lowest in the 80k range based on h1b data. not outraged so much as perplexed
Sure, but 80k is still below median income for a family in the Bay Area; (some friends at FB fall in this category and can definitely use the help).
if you don't see why it might look kinda bad to be making 80-150k and posting "omg love my company thx for the extra $$!!" while people at that company & others in the bay area who already make far, far less than that are about to lose jobs then i can't help you
I definitely do see that. Just wanted to point out that there are folks at FB with families and kids making $80k and not in the higher end of the spectrum who can use the extra money.
