It says all employees, not just engineers. AFAIK Facebook also employs chefs/cooks/events people/HR folks/finance people/interns etc.. Far be it from me to defend FB but this just seems like unnecessary outrage.
“employees” doesn’t include contractors, who do basically all the low-wage jobs there (cooks, cleaners, etc). and everyone in hr/finance/etc is still making a healthy tech white collar salary—at lowest in the 80k range based on h1b data. not outraged so much as perplexed
i guess my hope is that a decent idea might spread beyond fb i mean, shitty ideas trickle down from highly-visible firms (everyone adopted the dumbness of stack ranking from GE in the 80s/MS in the 90s)... maybe mindless mimicry could actually be good in this instance
