unpopular opinion time: * firms are making decisions about how to respond * under time pressure/uncertainty, firms copy others' decisions * publicizing good practices (reducing financial/performance incentives to break quarantine) increases the likelihood of them being copied
-
i mean, the portal part is hilarious/dumb/bubble-y but "we're walking back incentive structures to reduce stress and improve quarantine compliance" seems like a good message to spread

No engineer needs that to survive; Facebook is protecting millionaires that don't need protection. Meanwhile, nothing about how to make contractors first-class employees, they need real help. This is just a measure to help increase inequality. How can someone feel proud of that?

a different perspective. Some Facebook FTEs are underrepresented minorities, who may have just started recently, and have not built up a nest egg, that this extra cash could def help with. I think the assumption that all employees at a company is rich is a privilege itself.

nah it's a gross culture and bubble my dude - FB median pay is $240k and Walmart is $19k. I have new grad SWE friends at msft up in Redmond, with ~120k base, that were legitimately annoyed today about not getting 1k like here. these chat groups with these people I know
