my dad grew up poor in a village in the middle of nowhere and is now quite wealthy and the only reason that was possible was bc the government paid for his college and then for his phd. it’s stupid that in this country you have to be already rich to get that opportunity

I went to a school whose founder believed that "education should be free as air and water." It was free for 155 years until they started charging half tuition in 2014. It was a novel idea and more schools should do that but it's hard to make it sustainable
Education is free; it's educational institutions that offer organized curricula and paper degrees that are not. We should work to improve and modernize these institutions rather than blindly subsidize a system that costs too much and clearly doesn't work for everyone.
