the geography of the east is much older & thus less stereotypically dramatic i’m imagining an easy crossing of the appalachians, arriving at the soft sloping coast in the carolinas, creating a mythology of an enveloping & humid east. like going back to the womb

You mean if Spain had established themselves and the Spanish language and pushed north-eastward, while England, France and Holland had *not* established themselves in the east? Or if Spain had pushed north-east while the others pushed west?
