I bet that app was using all the latest tech though. It was probably react native talking over gRPC to a Go web service running on Kubernetes. I bet the engineers did lots of design reviews and argued about what database library to use for _weeks_. Like good engineers do.
like no this is definitely not what happened the app was definitely made by some underpaid java/sql programmers at some enterprise shop in definitely not san francisco or seattle or new york

That's a bit optimistic. I'm guessing the app was sold by some consultant hack who thinks coal miners should learn to code but has never written a single line, then subcontracted to whoever looked the part on Upwork. B/c amateurs, forgot any support or testing in the contract.
