the trains are nice tho & super on time in big stations like shanghai hongqiao they literally don’t let u onto the platform until like 3 min before departure bc another entire train is boarding every 3 min. insane scale of raw people movement

to be clear i’m like 100% in favor of hsr along certain corridors like in the northeast and maybe sf to la but the “nationwide us hsr map” pic that everyone’s getting all cutesy about is both infeasible and also unjustifiable sorry

Fun relevant fact: If the US had the population density of Germany, we would have almost 2.4 Billion people.

Even if you got REALLY GOOD trains, a lot of those routes are gonna be 5-6 hours and $200. Not needing to park at the airport isn't gonna make you magically weekend in St Louis frequently
