Land rights is also a huge issue! Americans hate eminent domain but it's unclear where you put the tracks without it. China obviously doesn't have this problem
yup a ton of reasons why it’s infeasible! but just wanted to point out china had a huge motivation for making it happen in the first place

I don't think China is generally laid out as the model for U.S. rail, it's the retort to people who say "the U.S. is a big country" when people correctly identify that robust HSR exists all over Europe, Japan and SK, etc.
