the trains are nice tho & super on time in big stations like shanghai hongqiao they literally don’t let u onto the platform until like 3 min before departure bc another entire train is boarding every 3 min. insane scale of raw people movement

to be clear i’m like 100% in favor of hsr along certain corridors like in the northeast and maybe sf to la but the “nationwide us hsr map” pic that everyone’s getting all cutesy about is both infeasible and also unjustifiable sorry

Land rights is also a huge issue! Americans hate eminent domain but it's unclear where you put the tracks without it. China obviously doesn't have this problem
