thinking everything from dopamine fasting to evopsych to even the popularity of workout classes — for which the argument i hear most isn’t “i do group workouts bc they’re fun”, it’s “i need someone yelling at me to work out and if i pay a membership that’ll force me to go more”

incentives are useful for systems i think but individuals are supposed to have coherency? slippery slope from using incentives as support tools to letting them take over whatever agency was there before

I'm a tech person. I used nicotine as a reward stimulus to do cardio. It worked really well. I don't find it depressing because now I have a cardio habit. I never got addicted to nicotine in the process.

I was thinking about it before and i think some people feel bad insensitive structures are somehow an insult to their intelligence which they see as amoral. sort of makes sense when you think about the other things these people generally believe in ("merit", "libertarianism",etc)
