I think catnip (which is easy to grow in garden) is related to cannabis. Read somewhere that Romans used to smoke it. Relaxes you / makes you sleepy. Bit different than the effect on cats.

This theory is busted long back, a community used to smoke it but that was a placebo high they got, mostly due to coughing their lungs out causing the blood rush to the head. Marijuana has THC where as catnip does not constitute anything similar to that chemical
