the big promise of all the cool new apps is nonlinear organization and that's like, cool but i'm imagining if notion folds and you try to pull 3 years worth of notes out and it's all just like <div><div>shit you<div>cared about <div></div>what</div>

nonlinear organization for user content is never gonna be good until we figure out good underlying data models BUT for read only things like textbooks we should already be on that shit. what i would give for an interactive world history text that linked events across time & space

There's also Org mode which is timeless and very well thought out, as long as you don't mind joining a cult within a cult.

You could use a bunch of text files, AND join a cult by using Deft mode https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/DeftMode

.txt or http://Notes.app still are my go to, everything uses proprietary formats nowadays :(

occasionally i’ll think “i could write an app to make this better” when trying to plan something while planning everything to do for an app in a txt, i realize what’s going on and delete all evidence of the abominable idea
