idk if this is a bad take but everyone talking both ironically and unironically about "world war 3" comes off as kind of a callous dipshit

nothing like either of the world wars re: total mobilization is a thing that really happens anymore at all much less to like, the united states in the 21st century and making that analogy discounts the actual asymmetries in methods & impacts of the way war is fought today

Respectfully, I think a lot of jokes are being made by young people who don’t have another way to cope with the sheer insanity of this all. We raised a generation of ironic nihilists who have seen stupid wars, a ravaged climate; who can blame them for memeing through apocalypse?

i think the whole “this generation has seen too much” thing is mostly valid esp when it’s used as a rhetorical tool to effect change but i don’t ageee with giving adults an excuse to ride the hyperbole meme wave without first shutting up and trying to educate themselves

not against memeing as a processing tool in general but the specific use of “wwiii” bothers me bc it implies a kinda self-absorbed fear of total societal impact that we probably aren’t going to experience but a lot of people in the middle east are

totally uninformed speculation warning but i think the only things likely to cause a societal paradigm shift on the scale of a “world war” type thing are a major cyberattack that takes down huge critical systems in the us (plausible) or like nuclear shit (probably not)
