by far the highlight of the away article is that the company's head of people, who as far as i can tell from google images looks exactly like any other white woman, "identifies as a person of color"

no i agree with you, although it's not just about melanin etc but we both know we are using imperfect shorthand for things. your looks/your privilege/how you experience racism/the cultures you identify with are all different but in this case phrasing "i'm a poc" is kind egregious
my feel is that the phrase "person of color" in america in 2019 is typically used in contexts directly related to privileges or absences thereof having to do with perceived race. ppl typically use different language when talking abt cultural identity (bc race != culture)

and so someone who is white-passing using "person of color" instead of say, talking abt their mother who looks black or abt their native heritage or something, comes across as trying to coopt the dynamics of privilege not arguing w/you just figuring out my own thoughts here
