by far the highlight of the away article is that the company's head of people, who as far as i can tell from google images looks exactly like any other white woman, "identifies as a person of color"

there's also the flipside that a *lot* of Americans claim some native heritage, which is problematic both because: - they have no ties with the claimed heritage - If you're going far back enough not all native parents were .... willing this particular one is super tricky
-
yup there’s absolutely a subset of people trying to coopt systems set up to benefit people who are.....not them

don't really know how to navigate that one all the way through but imo even in that case if you look white and ppl assume you're white on meeting it's pretty aggressive to self-identify as a "person of color" and i wouldn't love it

yeah personally I don't know if it's good or bad tbh, I don't want to deny people their heritage if they think it defined them at all, but also probably not a good idea to try to present it as evidence to try to relate to people when you look like their oppressor that's all

ya had some more thoughts here but it's a complicated & interesting dynamic and a lot of is is so unique to the US and idk how long it will ever be before ppl come up with a good way to talk abt ithttps://twitter.com/isosteph/status/1202729406109638657 …

i’m white & native and I am so tired of people using Warren as some kind of way to mock native people who don’t conform to what outsiders think native people look like. anyway, thank you for your response here steph - it is very complicated but

i am not a PoC - it doesn’t make sense to appropriate that term for anyone who feels like they are x degrees removed from being white. i won’t define it for others but if people think you’re white they are going to treat you like you’re white, that’s the tweet baby
