i feel less psychologically attached to giant sloths & dinosaurs which are old enough to only exist as fossils in my head but like buffalo and lions were doing ok only a few generations back

ah yeah — there are way fewer now (objectively sad), but a long time ago animals were even bigger (objectively cool). Reading about how common buffalo used to be really made me feel this
