every morning my alarm announces the day with a gentle crescendo and tells me i have gotten 8 hours of 100% quality sleep and every morning i drag myself out of bed wanting to die knowing i could do another 3 hours easy

When I learned that sleep cycles are 90 min and you’ll wake up most refreshed and not mid-deep sleep if you aim for that....game changer! So, try 7.5 or 9? Personally I love 9. Because I adore sleep.

I am like this. Started taking a zinc lozenge an hour or two before bed a month or so ago and now my sleep is at least 30% better. More deep sleep, less tossing and turning, and I wake up feeling SO much more rested.
