seeing yourself as an unaccountable transient also contributes to the problem. it’s a self reinforcing cycle and each individual’s reasoning is understandable but in collective it hurts everyone and not everyone is equipped to take the hit for others but it’s an awareness thing

no i don’t know enough about economics to say much about capitalism except that i think widening inequality sucks and also that i benefit immensely from existing structures, which is why i don’t go around saying shit i don’t understand just because it’s trendy

Widening inequality is...good!! The more equal everyone is the more destitute everyone is. It's a natural consequence of freedom to produce, that the best producers become much more wealthy than those who add only a little bit of value to society.

being paid well doesn’t automatically make you guilty of all things but lots of tech ppl really hate thinking abt the ways they participate in systems that are fucking them. eg taking lyfts then complaining abt traffic, ignoring city politics then complaining abt rent

It's normal if you are an experienced Software Engineer in Bay Area. If someone started working right after undergrad, they will be making this much easily.
