still thinking abt how med student friend explained to me the other day how they teach doctors to show empathy by “reflecting what the patient says back at them”, which is possibly the least empathetic coldest thing i could possibly think of doing to someone in pain or distress
apparently when someone says it hurts like a 9 out of 10 or that they feel like garbage instead of saying “that fucking sucks what can i do to help” you are supposed to remain calm and say “i see you’re in a lot of pain :)”
