super mixed feelings in general re: freshman diversity programs at big tech cos (even aside from problems w their actual “diversity”). they can be amazing opportunities for entry into the industry but also i feel like they’re low key traps

Yeah.. I always try and get my interns to apply for the jobs I'd want if I didn't love the FB rat race so much. I'm very glad for the terrible jobs I worked before FB I feel like stock and pay locks you in more than interviewing skills. Though that might be more a London thing

does any of this not equally apply to other internship programs? sounds like a pitfall of professional success in general

FAANG provide a super clear path for the first 3 or so years after an internship, and pay very well along that path. Personally out of uni I bounced around various terrible companies, staying two~ years each. The FAANG way is less painful, but has downsides (bubbles!)
