i love when engineers call servers “boxes” it makes it sound like we are playing around with pieces of cardboard all day and that is about all my small brain can handle

bad: the shard is reaching capacity, we need to migrate the data good: box too small for things. need big box

Or use a better shard key and reshard ? Just because one node/shard has reached capacity doesn't mean the whole distributed system has reached capacity. Look at "sharding hotspots"
